The Nigerian Army’s Guards Brigade has reaffirmed its determination to intensify operations against terrorism and criminal networks within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), declaring that troops will not relent until all threats are neutralised.
This commitment was reiterated during the conclusion of a two-day intensive Raid and Rescue Field Training Exercise conducted by the 102 Guards Battalion under the codename “Exercise LEOPARD CLAW,” which ended on March 27, 2026, in Abuja.
The exercise began on March 26 with a detailed classroom lecture session aimed at enhancing troops’ understanding of modern raid and rescue doctrines. It progressed into a full-scale field simulation, where personnel were drilled in high-risk operational scenarios designed to test coordination, speed, and tactical precision.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the exercise, Commander of the Guards Brigade, Adebisi Onasanya, reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to sustain aggressive operations against terrorists and bandits operating within Abuja and surrounding areas.
He stressed that continuous training and operational readiness remain central to the Brigade’s mandate of securing the nation’s capital, adding that troops are fully committed to flushing out criminal elements from the territory.

Onasanya also assured residents of their safety, urging them to remain calm while maintaining vigilance and promptly reporting suspicious activities to security agencies. He emphasised that effective security delivery requires strong collaboration between the military and civilian population.
The exercise featured coordinated tactical drills involving multiple operational units, simulating real-time raid missions against hostile targets. Troops were assessed on their ability to conduct rapid assaults on suspected terrorist enclaves, rescue simulated kidnapped victims, and dismantle identified hideouts.
According to military authorities, the operation demonstrated the successful neutralisation of simulated threats, showcasing the Brigade’s operational efficiency, discipline, and preparedness for real-world contingencies.
The Nigerian Army said the outcome of “Exercise LEOPARD CLAW” reflects the Guards Brigade’s sustained commitment to safeguarding Abuja and maintaining internal security readiness amid evolving threats.
Military spokesperson Odunola Olawuyi described the exercise as a clear demonstration of the professionalism and resilience of troops in executing their constitutional mandate.
