A windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall has caused damage to sections of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Nyanya, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said.
The incident, which occurred a few hours before the release of an official statement on Tuesday, also resulted in minor damage to the Nyanya pedestrian bridge and some nearby buildings.
According to preliminary reports, no casualties were recorded, and no vehicles were affected by the storm.
According to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, in response, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate deployment of security personnel to the affected area to maintain law and order and ensure the free flow of traffic.
The Minister also ordered prompt remedial action to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore normalcy in the area.
The FCTA reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and infrastructure maintenance, assuring residents that necessary measures are being taken to address the impact of the incident.
