President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while being held captive by terrorists in Katsina State.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the development as shocking and extended his condolences to the late military officer’s family, the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
According to the statement, General Abubakar, who retired from military service after a distinguished career, was travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by armed criminals.
President Tinubu also sympathised with the family of the deceased, particularly his wife, who remains in captivity.
The President reiterated his administration’s resolve not to negotiate with terrorists or accede to demands for the release of detained members of criminal groups.
He maintained that despite the killing of the retired general, the government would remain firm in its commitment to combating terrorism and insecurity across the country.
Referencing his Democracy Day address of June 12, Tinubu restated his warning to bandits, kidnappers and terror sponsors to surrender or face decisive action from the Nigerian state.
He emphasized that the government would continue its efforts to defeat terrorist groups and restore security nationwide, assuring Nigerians that the country would ultimately prevail over forces threatening national peace and stability.
The President further described the death of General Abubakar as a tragic reminder of the need to intensify the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
He said the incident should strengthen the nation’s determination to confront terrorist groups without compromise, describing them as enemies of the state who must be decisively defeated.
The statement reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to sustaining military and security operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and securing communities across the country.
