Late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, and other fallen soldiers have been laid to rest with full military honours in a solemn ceremony held on Wednesday at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri.
The emotionally charged event drew grieving families, colleagues, and top government and military officials, who gathered to pay their final respects to the servicemen who died in the line of duty.
Among those in attendance were the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum; the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, and other senior officers of the Armed Forces.
The fallen soldiers were honoured with full military rites in recognition of their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and security.
In separate tributes, the dignitaries described the deceased as patriots who demonstrated exceptional bravery and paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. They noted that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes would remain a lasting source of inspiration and a testament to duty and honour.
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while detailed citations of their service records were read before their next of kin. The ceremony underscored both the profound loss suffered by their families and the enduring respect accorded to their sacrifice.
The burial serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of safeguarding national peace and stability, as the country continues to honour those who gave their lives in its defence.
