The Nigeria Police Force has commenced proceedings of its Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) to examine pending cases involving 167 senior officers accused of professional misconduct and related offences.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the hearings, currently taking place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, form part of ongoing efforts by the police leadership to reinforce internal accountability, uphold discipline, and strengthen professional standards within the Force.
The FDC, a critical internal review body, is mandated to handle disciplinary matters concerning officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above. Its processes are designed to ensure a thorough, transparent, and fair assessment of cases in line with established laws and regulations, with recommendations subsequently forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final action.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reiterated the Force’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, stressing that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face due process without protection or bias.
He noted that the disciplinary exercise is part of broader institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal control systems, promoting ethical conduct, and restoring public confidence in policing.
The Force reaffirmed its resolve to maintain high standards of accountability and service, emphasizing that officers are expected to adhere strictly to the core values of the profession.
