Troops ambush terrorists in Katsina, recover arms

Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have reportedly ambushed suspected terrorists in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State, neutralising three insurgents and recovering arms and other items during the operation.

According to Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Captain Abayomi Adisa, the operation was carried out by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA as part of ongoing offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in the state.

According to military authorities, the troops took up blocking positions along the Turare–Kitibawa–Kuka-Mai Damusa Road in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area before ambushing a group of terrorists reportedly fleeing military operations in the Matazu general area.

The ambush reportedly occurred at about 9:40 p.m. on 9 May 2026.

Military sources disclosed that three suspected terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms and a cash sum of N3,500.

The Army said troops had sustained offensive operations against criminal elements with the aim of restoring peace and security across the state.

Authorities also called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to assist ongoing efforts to rid the area of terrorists and other criminal groups.
