The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has conducted a free medical outreach and educational programme for pupils and residents of Apapa, Lagos State, as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary celebration.
The event, held on Tuesday at the Nigerian Navy Primary School, Mobil Road, Apapa, was organised under the leadership of the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu.
According to the Navy, the initiative aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for Commands and Units of the Nigerian Navy to give back to their host communities through humanitarian and community-focused programmes.
The outreach also formed part of the Navy’s civil-military cooperation efforts aimed at strengthening relationships with host communities and improving the wellbeing of citizens through impactful social interventions.
The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, had reportedly encouraged Units under the Command to initiate people-oriented programmes capable of fostering stronger civil-military relations and positively impacting communities within their operational areas.
Activities during the outreach included free medical consultations, health screenings, distribution of prescribed medications, and health awareness sessions for pupils, teachers, parents, and residents of the surrounding community.
As part of the educational component, learning materials were distributed to pupils to support academic development and promote a stronger culture of learning. The children were also sensitised on discipline, civic responsibility, patriotism, and national consciousness.
Speaking at the event, Commodore Adams-Aliu reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to protecting the nation’s maritime domain while contributing to community development and human capacity building.
He stated that the outreach reflected the Navy’s dedication to programmes that directly impact the lives of Nigerians, especially children and young people who represent the future of the country.
The Commander emphasised that access to quality healthcare and education remains critical to sustainable national development, adding that investing in children is essential to building a safer and more prosperous society.
He further encouraged the pupils to remain disciplined, committed to their education, and guided by values such as integrity, patriotism, and excellence.
In separate remarks, the Head Teacher of the school, the Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, and several parents commended the Nigerian Navy and the leadership of NNS BEECROFT for the initiative.
They expressed appreciation for the Navy’s continued support to host communities and its commitment to programmes that promote public wellbeing, national unity, and development.
The outreach, according to the Navy, further demonstrated its resolve to strengthen ties with communities through people-centred initiatives while reinforcing its role as a professional and responsive Service dedicated to national security and progress.
