Troops arrest five suspected criminals in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested five suspected criminals during a security operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The suspects were apprehended on Thursday following a distress call reporting an attack by armed criminals on communities within the area.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Karim Lamido swiftly responded to the emergency and moved to the affected location.

On arrival, the soldiers reportedly came under attack from unidentified gunmen. The troops engaged the assailants with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat into nearby areas. A subsequent pursuit operation led to the arrest of five suspects believed to be connected to the attack.

Items recovered from the suspects included two motorcycles, daggers, machetes, assorted charms, gunpowder, and five mobile phones.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism, courage, and gallantry.

He reiterated the directive of the Chief of Army Staff for personnel to remain vigilant and sustain efforts aimed at eliminating criminal elements and denying them freedom of movement within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

The brigade commander also reassured residents of Taraba State of the military’s commitment to tracking down criminal elements and maintaining pressure on threats to peace and security until normalcy is fully restored across the state.

The Nigerian Army said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and protect lives and property in Taraba and other areas affected by criminal activities.
