Troops repel ISWAP assault in Borno, inflict heavy casualties

The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded another operational success following the successful repulsion of an ISWAP attack and a swift counter-offensive along the Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

In a statement, Acting Military Information Officer Headquarters, Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri Captain Mohammed Goni said in the early hours of 19 June 2026, ISWAP terrorists launched coordinated attacks on military positions at Dusten Kura and along Chara Road. Troops, operating under the Joint Task Force North East under Operation HADIN KAI, promptly detected the incursion through intelligence support and engaged the attackers with superior firepower.

The response involved a coordinated ground and air operation, with the Air Component delivering Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) support and precision strikes. The Nigerian Air Force air platforms effectively integrated with ground forces, disrupting the attackers’ momentum, breaking their formation, and forcing a hasty retreat.

Military authorities confirmed that the terrorists suffered significant personnel and equipment losses, while no casualties were recorded among own troops.

The statement noted that the outcome underscores the high level of readiness, operational synergy, and sustained pressure maintained by troops across the theatre in degrading insurgent capabilities.

The theatre command reiterated its commitment to denying terrorist elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety and security of civilians in the North East.

Members of the public were also urged to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-insurgency operations aimed at restoring lasting peace in the region.
