Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a coordinated offensive operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
In a statement, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieut. Col. Aliyu Danja said the operation, conducted on June 27, 2026, formed part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and strengthen security across the North-West.
According to the military, the successful operation was launched following credible intelligence indicating that members of the terrorist group were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly deployed to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists in a bid to thwart the planned assault.
The troops engaged the terrorists as they advanced towards the ambush position, leading to a fierce gun battle. The military said its superior firepower overwhelmed the attackers, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while other members of the group fled into the surrounding forest.
A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and other operational items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
The Joint Task Force said the operation underscores its determination to sustain offensive operations against terrorist and other criminal elements threatening peace and security across the North-West.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
