In a commendable humanitarian effort, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has successfully facilitated the repatriation of 99 Nigerian nationals who found themselves stranded in the neighboring Niger Republic. The returnees, who volunteered to return to their home country, arrived at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport’s Cargo Wing at approximately 1415 hours.
The return journey was made possible through a chartered flight provided by Sky Mali, bearing the registration number TZ-SMA, which was a Boeing 737-500. On board the aircraft were a total of 99 returnees, consisting of 15 adult females, including two individuals with medical conditions, 76 adult males, seven female children, 15 male children, and one female infant.
Upon their arrival at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, several government agencies were on hand to assist and receive the returnees. These agencies include the Refugee Commission, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
This collaborative effort between the IOM and various Nigerian government agencies demonstrates the commitment to ensuring the safe and voluntary return of Nigerian citizens who may have found themselves in challenging circumstances abroad. It is a testament to the dedication of these organizations in upholding the welfare and interests of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
