President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 new officials into 10 federal agencies and commissions, naming former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission.
The appointments, announced on Monday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, take immediate effect.
At the Rural Electrification Agency, Fayose will head the board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as members and non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors complete the board.
The President also reconstituted the National Salary and Wages Commission, appointing Major General Bindawa as chairman and former Lagos lawmaker, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, as secretary.
Other appointments to the commission include Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian (Benue), Oladele Olatubosun (Oyo) and Yakubu Umar Barde (Kaduna) as commissioners, while Dr. Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) were named members.
In another development, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who had earlier been appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.
President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) Plc, and Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engineer Julius Oloro was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), Ilorin, succeeding Dr. A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
The President equally inaugurated a new board for the Fiscal Responsibility Commission with Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman.
Other members of the commission are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Also appointed was Shuni Muhammad Dahiru as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) in April.
To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan, former Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), President Tinubu appointed economist and legal scholar Gisaor Vincent Iorja as the new Executive Director (Finance).
Iorja currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect as part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and improve the performance of key federal institutions.
