Troops of the 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army, have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil thieves during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing economic sabotage.
The operation, conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, followed credible intelligence on illegal oil bunkering activities in the area.
Military authorities said the troops stormed the suspected bunkering site in a coordinated raid, leading to the arrest of six suspects allegedly involved in the illicit operation.
Items recovered during the operation included four trucks, a pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for siphoning and transporting illegally refined petroleum products.
The suspects and all recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised their professionalism and urged them to sustain the ongoing offensive against illegal bunkering, economic sabotage, and other criminal activities within the division’s area of responsibility.
The latest operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts, in collaboration with other security agencies, to protect critical national assets and disrupt criminal networks involved in oil theft and related offences.
