Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders in Azege Village, Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The troops responded to a distress call on Monday, August 10, 2026, reporting an attack on the community. They swiftly mobilised to the area, where they engaged the assailants in a gun battle.
According to a statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the troops’ superior firepower forced the attackers to flee in disarray.
During the subsequent pursuit, the troops discovered one of the attackers who had been killed in the encounter.
Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 16 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and a Nokia mobile phone.
The recovered items have been secured, while the remains of the deceased suspect were evacuated by the police.
The task force said efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend other members of the group who escaped during the encounter.
It commended the troops for their resilience and praised the Nigeria Police Force for its effective collaboration in the operation.
The JTF also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
