The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, to Plateau State following a deadly attack on Bin’per Community in Mangu Local Government Area that claimed about 24 lives.
AIG Morris, representing the IGP, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected community on Thursday, August 20, 2026, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayoade Faniyan, and other senior police officers.
The visit was aimed at assessing the security situation, reviewing measures already in place and strengthening operational strategies to prevent further attacks.
Addressing residents of the affected community, AIG Morris conveyed the IGP’s deep concern over the incident and condemned the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.
He sympathised with the families of those killed and assured residents that the Police would intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Morris disclosed that additional police personnel and operational assets had been deployed to the area to reinforce security, restore public confidence and create conditions for displaced residents to safely return to their homes and livelihoods.
The AIG also paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, where he conveyed the condolences of IGP Disu to the government and people of the state over the incident.
Governor Mutfwang expressed concern over the attack and reaffirmed the state government’s support for ongoing security operations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators, preventing further violence and restoring lasting peace in affected communities.
The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to work closely with the Plateau State Government, other security agencies and affected communities to strengthen security, prevent further attacks and protect residents across the state.
The Force also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the Bin’per attack are brought to justice.
