Troops of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, have rescued a 28-year-old kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Kogi State, disrupting the activities of kidnappers operating in the area.
The operation was conducted by troops operating from Patrol Base Obajana, who encountered the victim after he escaped from his abductors.
During preliminary debriefing, the victim disclosed that he had been abducted from the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory about five weeks ago and subsequently held captive at a location within the area.
Acting on the information provided by the victim, the troops immediately advanced to the identified location.
However, the kidnappers fled into the surrounding terrain after sighting the troops, abandoning their hideout and leaving behind an AK-47 rifle, which was subsequently recovered during the search of the area.
The rescued victim was evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is currently receiving appropriate medical attention.
The Nigerian Army said the operation underscores its continued commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes through proactive and intelligence-led operations designed to deny criminal elements freedom of action.
Troops are currently exploiting the breakthrough to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their criminal network.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that sustained operations would continue in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to secure communities and restore lasting peace and security.
