A Niger State High Court sitting in Minna has sentenced 27-year-old Hussaini Suleiman to seven years’ imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl at his residence behind the Prison Quarters, Minna.
Suleiman was convicted by the court, presided over by Justice Binta Bawa, after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The case was referred to the Niger State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) by the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on April 16, 2026, following a report concerning the sexual assault of the minor.
During investigation, the convict admitted committing the offence. He was subsequently arraigned before Court 8 of the Niger State High Court in Minna on September 10, 2026.
Following his guilty plea, the court convicted him and imposed a seven-year prison sentence.
The conviction underscores the criminal justice system’s response to sexual violence against children and the importance of prompt reporting, investigation and prosecution of such offences.
