Peter Obi condemns killing of Kano commentator

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has condemned the killing of social media commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu at his residence in Kano State.

Obi, in a statement, described the killing as deeply saddening, stressing that no disagreement, criticism or neighbourhood dispute could justify the taking of a human life.

He said Nigerians who express their opinions, speak out on public issues or hold views different from others should not be forced to live in fear.

The former presidential candidate called on the Kano State Government and relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dan Shagamu’s death.

Obi urged authorities to ensure that all those found responsible for the killing are identified and brought to justice.

He also reaffirmed the constitutional right of every Nigerian to freedom of expression, insisting that the right must be protected regardless of political, social or ideological differences.

“Our Constitution guarantees every Nigerian the fundamental right to freedom of expression. That right must be protected for all, regardless of our differences,” Obi said.

He extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and followers, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for those mourning his death.
