The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has graduated 1,626 officers from its Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course, 2026, with the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, charging them to uphold professionalism, embrace technology and exercise sound judgment in confronting emerging border-security and migration challenges.
The officers passed out at ceremonies held at the Immigration Training School, Kano, and the Digital Bridge Institute, in what the Service described as one of its largest training exercises.
Represented by the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resources Management, Samuel Agba, Nandap said the changing dynamics of border management demanded officers who could combine their statutory responsibilities with technological competence, professionalism and operational efficiency.
She congratulated the graduates and urged them to maintain high ethical standards in the discharge of their duties, stressing that technology had become an indispensable tool for addressing contemporary challenges in border security and migration management.
Nandap reaffirmed the NIS commitment to continuous training, professional upgrading and personnel welfare, describing human-capital development as fundamental to building an effective, responsive and modern immigration service.
The Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, CIS AN Akuneme, said the number of cadets mobilised for the course was unprecedented in the history of the institution.
Akuneme urged the graduates to remain adaptable as border-management responsibilities become increasingly complex, particularly in facilitating legitimate migration while preventing irregular migration and trans-border threats.
He said the training was structured to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and professional capacity required to respond effectively to the demands of modern immigration administration.
The graduation ceremony featured merit awards for outstanding participants, while the commissioning of an ultra-modern market constructed by the course participants provided a major highlight of the event.
Representatives of various security agencies, alongside serving and retired senior officers of the NIS, attended the ceremony.
The graduation underscores the Service’s growing emphasis on professional development, technological advancement and human-capital investment as critical components of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s border governance and migration-management system.
