The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested about 300 persons during a major raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the nation’s capital.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja SP Josephine Adeh said the operation, conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, was aimed at disrupting criminal activities, preventing crime and enhancing the safety and security of residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Command, police operatives raided several locations identified as potential criminal hideouts and recovered knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs.
The approximately 300 suspects arrested during the operation are undergoing screening and profiling to establish their identities and determine possible involvement in criminal activities.
The police said suspects found to have committed offences would be charged to court in accordance with the law, while those against whom no case is established would be released after due screening.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the Command would sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations, particularly in locations identified as potential hideouts for criminals.
Sanusi also warned youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, noting that substance abuse could impair judgment, contribute to violent and criminal behaviour and expose individuals and communities to security risks.
He urged persons struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support rather than allow substance abuse to draw them into criminal activities.
The Commissioner further directed police officers involved in the operations to maintain professionalism and operate strictly within the law.
He warned that raids and arrests must not be used as opportunities for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money, stressing that officers found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command appealed to residents to continue providing credible and timely information about suspicious activities and suspected criminal hideouts in their communities.
