The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has honoured four senior officers who retired after 35 years of dedicated service to the nation.
The retirees, comprising three Deputy Comptrollers-General and an Assistant Comptroller-General, were celebrated at a valedictory ceremony held at the NIS headquarters in Abuja.
Those honoured were Deputy Comptroller-General, Planning, Research and Statistics, Dauda Bagari; Deputy Comptroller-General, ICT and Cybersecurity, Augustina Obianime; Deputy Comptroller-General, Border Management, Rano Sabo; and Assistant Comptroller-General, Migration Directorate, Azuka Halliday.
The ceremony brought together senior management officials, colleagues, family members, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the retirees’ careers and contributions to the development of the Service.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, the Deputy Comptroller-General, Visa and Residency, Franca Nwanneka, commended the retiring officers for their leadership, dedication and contributions to the growth and transformation of the NIS.
Nwanneka conveyed the Service’s appreciation for their years of service, describing their careers as an important chapter in the institutional history of the NIS. She wished them a fulfilling retirement and success in their future endeavours.
The ceremony featured tributes and emotional moments as colleagues and family members reflected on the officers’ decades of service to the country.
The NIS described the occasion as a celebration of excellence, institutional legacy and selfless national service, noting that the retirees had served in critical areas including planning and research, ICT, cybersecurity, border management and migration administration.
Their exit marks the departure of a generation of senior officers who contributed to the administration and transformation of Nigeria’s immigration and border-management system.
The Service said the valedictory session was a fitting recognition of their sacrifices and contributions as they transition into post-service life.
