Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a suspected terrorist attack, recovered an AK-47 rifle and arrested a suspected criminal during separate operations in Kaduna State.
In a statement, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA Lieut. Col. Aliyu Danja said the operations, conducted between September 23 and 24, 2026, were carried out by troops of Sector 1 in Kachia Local Government Area.
On September 23, troops acting on credible intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists through the bushes around Rijana swiftly mobilised to the area and laid an ambush.
The troops engaged the terrorists after sighting them, forcing them to retreat. A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier and a military jungle hat, among other items.
In a separate operation the same day, troops conducted a clearance operation in Awom village, Kachia LGA, to deny terrorists and other criminal elements safe haven in the community.
During the operation, the troops arrested a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The suspect is currently in military custody for further investigation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response, while assuring that offensive and clearance operations would continue to disrupt terrorist activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities across the Joint Operations Area.
