Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 41 travelers abducted by suspected bandits after their vehicle broke down along a major highway in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue operation followed actionable intelligence indicating that the travelers had been stranded after their commercial vehicle, travelling from Senegal to Kano State, developed a mechanical fault on the highway.
The suspected bandits reportedly took advantage of the breakdown to attack the vehicle and attempted to move the occupants into the surrounding area.
Responding swiftly to the intelligence, troops mobilised to the scene and engaged the armed group, deploying superior firepower that forced the suspects to abandon the victims and flee into nearby farmlands.
All 41 travelers were rescued unharmed.
The victims comprised 24 males, 10 females and seven children. They are currently receiving necessary support and are expected to be reunited with their families and relevant transit authorities.
The troops have maintained an active presence in the area as part of efforts to protect travelers along the route and track down the fleeing suspects.
The operation underscores the military’s ongoing efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt criminal activities and protect civilians across the North-West.
