Police neutralize suspected notorious kidnapper and gunrunner, recover significant ammunition cache in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Aliyu Abubakar Musa, demonstrated exceptional vigilance and determination in the ongoing fight against banditry, culminating in a significant breakthrough on November 11th, 2023.

According to the Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the operation was initiated based on actionable intelligence regarding the presence of suspected kidnappers armed with dangerous weaponry, including AK-47 rifles, in a farm on the outskirts of Yankara village, Faskari Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State. The operation, executed at approximately 0330hrs, aimed to neutralize the threat posed by these criminals.

Upon receiving the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Faskari swiftly convened a joint task force comprising police operatives, vigilante members, and officers from the Katsina State Neighbourhood Security Watch Corps. Responding promptly to the scene, the operatives encountered armed resistance from the suspects, who opened fire. In a display of valor and professionalism, the law enforcement officers effectively returned fire, thwarting the criminal activities and forcing the suspects to retreat into the nearby bush.

During the subsequent search of the area, the lifeless body of one suspected kidnapper, identified as 22-year-old Nazifi Ibrahim from Unguwar Tsamiya village, Faskari LGA, was discovered. The operation also led to the recovery of a significant cache of ammunition, concealed in a sack, including 185 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 90 live rounds of 5.56mm M193 type 06 ammunition, and 13 AK-47 magazines.

Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation progresses.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism, collaboration, and bravery, Commissioner Aliyu Abubakar Musa stressed the vital importance of synergy among officers, local police commands, and relevant security agencies in their respective LGAs. He urged continued cooperation with the State Neighbourhood Security Watch Corps to enhance the security of citizens and their property. The Commissioner also appealed to law-abiding citizens to provide crucial and timely information on criminal activities, emphasizing the need to report individuals displaying suspicious injuries, as some bandits may have escaped with gunshot wounds.
