Deputy Senate President offsets  postgraduate student’s cancer treatment bills

In a compassionate gesture, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, has stepped in to alleviate the financial burden of Abdurrabah Idris Yahaya, a 30-year-old M.Sc. student from Kano State, who has been grappling with cancer.

According to an official statement released by Ismail Mudashir, the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Abdurrabah, a resident of Bankaura/S.Doka area in Ungogo Local Government of Kano State, garnered widespread attention on social media as he sought assistance for medical treatment. Medical professionals had recommended surgery, prompting the urgent call for financial support.

Responding promptly to the distressing situation, the Deputy Senate President dispatched a delegation, led by his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, to deliver a monetary assistance of N1.45 million. This sum was specifically intended to cover the medical and surgery expenses incurred by the ailing student.

Expressing deep concern for Abdurrabah’s well-being, Senator Barau emphasized the gravity of the situation and underscored the urgency of the surgical procedure. Abdurrabah, who is a beneficiary of the Deputy Senate President’s Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, received additional words of encouragement. Senator Barau urged the patient and his family to remain resilient in prayer, acknowledging that every illness is subject to the will of Allah, and offered heartfelt prayers for Abdurrabah’s swift recovery.

“The Deputy President of the Senate is deeply troubled since learning about the health condition of this young, talented man. Consequently, he has provided the required N1,450,000 for his surgery,” stated Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi on behalf of Senator Barau.

He further reiterated Senator Barau’s unwavering commitment to supporting individuals across various sectors, including education and health, for the overall development of society, emphasizing that this commitment extends beyond regional or state boundaries.

In heartfelt gratitude, the patient’s mother, Malama Halima Haruna, emotionally expressed her appreciation for the Deputy Senate President’s intervention, emphasizing that words could not capture the depth of their gratitude. Abdurrabah’s elder sister, Nafisa Idris Yahaya, conveyed the family’s longstanding plea for assistance and their profound joy at Senator Barau’s timely financial support.

“We received the sum of N1,450,000 from the Deputy President of the Senate. In the past, Senator Barau had covered the cost of Abdurrabah’s master’s degree scholarship. Today is our happiest day as we had been desperately seeking funds for the surgery. We appreciate him for this. May Almighty Allah reward him abundantly,” she expressed.

Senator Barau’s compassion and timely financial intervention have not only eased the burden on Abdurrabah and his family but also underscored the Deputy Senate President’s dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals, regardless of their geographical or political affiliations.
