SERAP urges members of 9th National Assembly to return looted television sets, carpets, and chairs

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has made a strong call to the members of the 9th National Assembly, both Senators and House of Representatives members, urging them to promptly return allegedly looted television sets, carpets, and chairs. The call came in response to the claims made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing APC Edo North.

On their social media page, SERAP posted the request, seeking accountability from the lawmakers for the items in question, which were allegedly taken from their offices at the conclusion of their tenure in June 2023.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the Senate, brought up the matter through a point of order, deeming it “sensitive” and moved for the Senate to enter an executive session for deliberation.

In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio asked Oshiomhole to come forward and address the issue directly. After a brief discussion with Oshiomhole, Akpabio then requested him to present his side of the story.

Oshiomhole, during his statement, apologized for his comments and clarified that his television interview was meant to defend the Senate, rather than implicate the Senators of the 9th National Assembly in any office looting.
