The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has addressed and refuted misleading information circulating concerning the recent conviction of Victor Oche Odeh, a 19-year-old individual, by Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court on July 21, 2023.
Odeh, along with four other undergraduates, Chidebere Stanley Opara (a.k.a. Avail Hollywood), Manasseh Sefa Ephraim (a.k.a. Felicia_dannyyels), Chukwukere Obinna Paul (a.k.a. Shaun Lee), and Enyogu Etim Ekpo (a.k.a. Henry Wilson, Jasdav7), was sentenced to two years imprisonment each after pleading guilty to separate one-count charges related to internet fraud.
Contrary to some insinuations and concocted accounts, the EFCC did not “parade” the convict, and it is essential to note that the EFCC is not a court of law that renders convictions. In a press release dated July 11, 2023, the ages of the convicts, including Odeh, were not explicitly stated. However, to dispel any confusion, Odeh’s age is officially confirmed as 19 years old. The EFCC urges the public to dismiss inaccurate claims suggesting that Odeh is seven years old.
In an effort to provide clarity and quell misinformation, the EFCC emphasizes that accurate details about the offense, prosecution, conviction, and sentence of Odeh can be found on all official social media platforms of the EFCC. The Commission underscores the importance of relying on factual information and encourages the public to disregard any unfounded speculations or controversies surrounding Odeh’s conviction.
“Facts are sacred,” states the EFCC, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accuracy in disseminating information. The public is urged to rely on official sources and refrain from engaging with false narratives circulating on social media in connection to Victor Oche Odeh’s conviction.
