Army intercepts 296 wraps of suspected cannabis in Ogun

Troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army have intercepted 296 large wraps of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa along the Abeokuta–Igboora Road in Ogun State.

The interception, which occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on March 1, 2026, followed a strategic tip-off regarding the planned movement of illicit drugs within the state. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops mounted an operation that led to the seizure of three large sacks containing the suspected cannabis.

According to the Brigade, the substances were being transported on an unregistered motorcycle. The suspect reportedly abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush under the cover of darkness upon sighting the troops.

The recovered exhibits have since been handed over to the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action.

The 35 Artillery Brigade reiterated its resolve to rid Ogun State of drug trafficking and related criminal activities, warning perpetrators to desist from unlawful enterprises or face arrest and prosecution.

The Brigade also reassured residents of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining a robust security presence across the state to deny criminal elements freedom of operation.
