Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued six kidnap victims in a routine patrol operation in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat banditry and enhance security across the state.
In a statement, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 17 Brigade Nigerian Army Captain Abayomi Adisa said the victims were rescued on 29 June 2026 when soldiers deployed at Unguwan Doka intercepted six individuals wandering through the bush after escaping from their abductors. They were identified as Mrs. Umaima Isiaku, 30; Amina Isiaku, 16; Safiya Isiaku, 15; Ramatu Suleiman, 30; Muhammad Shehu, 4; and Ibrahim Suleiman, 2.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims had been abducted by armed bandits from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area on 22 June 2026 before managing to flee captivity.
Following the rescue, the troops administered first aid and provided food and other essential support before reuniting the victims with their families.
The Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to sustain intensified operations against criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility. He stressed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining pressure on bandits and other security threats in Katsina State.
