Civic technology organisation BudgIT has condemned the violent attack on its Katsina State Officer, Mustapha Sadiq, who was assaulted by armed men at his residence in Katsina.
According to the organisation, the incident occurred on the night of April 4, 2026, when five assailants armed with machetes reportedly broke into Sadiq’s home and inflicted severe injuries to his head and upper body.
The attackers were also said to have attempted to steal his vehicle but failed, leaving him critically injured and in need of urgent medical care.
BudgIT, in a statement, said it remains unclear whether the attack was linked to Sadiq’s professional duties or civic engagement. However, it described the brutality of the incident as deeply troubling and reflective of broader security concerns.
“No individual should be subjected to such violence under any circumstances,” the organisation stated.
BudgIT confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the Nigeria Police Force, urging authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and to determine whether the attack was connected to Sadiq’s accountability work.
The organisation further called on relevant authorities to take decisive measures to strengthen public safety and ensure swift responses to violent crimes, warning that such incidents erode public confidence if left unaddressed.
BudgIT also expressed solidarity with the victim and his family, wishing him a speedy recovery and reaffirming its commitment to supporting him during his recuperation.
