Former Captain of the Green Eagles, Chairman Christian Chukwu, presented a copy of his biography titled “The Field Marshal” to the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, on Monday, July 22, 2024. The presentation took place during Chukwu’s courtesy visit to Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA.
During the visit, Chukwu, who led the Green Eagles to victory in the 1980 African Cup of Nations, explained that he was there to present his biography to the CoAS through the GOC. “The Field Marshal,” officially launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Chukwu’s career as a Rangers player, Green Eagles Captain, and the coach who qualified Nigeria for its first World Cup in USA 94, meticulously details his storied football career and achievements.

Receiving the book on behalf of the COAS, Major General Dada praised Chukwu, noting that while he may not be a war veteran, he is a “Field Marshal on the football field.” He thanked Chukwu for his significant contributions to football development in Nigeria, Africa, and globally. The GOC highlighted the football legend’s impactful life and achievements and took the opportunity to request Chukwu’s support in engaging and encouraging youths to avoid crime and criminality in the South East region and across the nation. He assured Chukwu that the book would be presented to the CoAS.
The event was attended by Commanders and Principal Staff Officers of the Division. The highlight of the occasion was the formal presentation of the biography, received by the GOC on behalf of the CoAS.
