The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Nigeria, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has arrived in Liberia to participate in the country’s 69th Armed Forces Day celebration on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at the invitation of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
In a statement Acting Director Army Public Relations Colonel Appolonia Anele said on arrival, Lt. Gen. Shaibu was received by the Chief of Staff of the Liberian Armed Forces, Major General Davidson Forley, and inspected a Guard of Honour mounted in his honour. The ceremonial reception highlighted the longstanding professional relationship between the Nigerian and Liberian armies and reflected the high regard in which Nigeria is held in Liberia.
As part of his official engagements, the COAS visited the Nigerian Embassy in Liberia, where he was welcomed by Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Rahmat Muhammad. He commended embassy officials for their efforts in strengthening Nigeria–Liberia relations and protecting Nigerian interests in the host country.
The visit underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to defence diplomacy, bilateral military cooperation, and regional security collaboration in West Africa. Lt. Gen. Shaibu’s participation in the Armed Forces Day events further reinforces Nigeria’s role in promoting professional solidarity and strategic partnerships with sister African militaries to address emerging security challenges.
During the celebrations, Lt. Gen. Shaibu is expected to deliver an address marking Liberia’s military heritage, operational achievements, and the Armed Forces’ contributions to national development and stability.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu previously served as Military Assistant to a former Chief of Staff of the Liberian Armed Forces and was awarded Liberia’s Distinguished Service Order for his contributions to the country’s defence sector.
