Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 48 individuals suspected to be involved in internet-related fraud in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
According to a statement released by the Commission, the suspects were apprehended following a discreet surveillance operation supported by credible intelligence, which linked them to various forms of cybercrime activities.
During the raid, EFCC operatives recovered a cache of items believed to be proceeds of crime. These included a pump-action rifle, five high-end cars, a motorcycle, several mobile phones, laptop computers, and incriminating documents, all of which are now in the custody of the anti-graft agency.
The EFCC emphasized that the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to rid the country of internet fraud and other forms of cybercrime, particularly among young adults. The suspects are currently undergoing further profiling and interrogation.
The Commission confirmed that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be formally charged in court to face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and warned that it will continue to pursue individuals and networks involved in fraudulent online activities across the country.
