NAFDAC warns on counterfeit dostinex tablets in circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the circulation of falsified and parallel-imported batches of Dostinex 0.5mg Tablets in Nigeria.

In a statement, the agency disclosed that three batches of the NAFDAC-registered product have been identified as falsified and unregistered parallel imports. The Marketing Authorisation Holder, Pfizer Nigeria Ltd, confirmed the development, noting that although the authentic product is duly registered with the agency, it has not yet been officially imported into the country.

Dostinex 0.5mg Tablets, containing cabergoline, are prescribed to reduce prolactin secretion and manage conditions associated with elevated prolactin levels.

NAFDAC urged healthcare providers, distributors, and patients to exercise heightened vigilance. Medical practitioners and pharmacists are advised to immediately audit their inventories in hospitals, clinics, and pharmacy outlets and report any suspected falsified or compromised medicines or medical devices.

The agency directed reports to the nearest NAFDAC office, through its toll-free line 0800-162-3322, or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng as part of ongoing surveillance and mop-up operations.
