The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is gearing up to exhibit the significant strides it has made in promoting domestic content within the telecommunications sector. This display of achievements will take place at the second iteration of the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE 2023). Scheduled from August 22 to 24, 2023, the event will be hosted at the Landmark Centre on Victoria Island in Lagos.
Under the theme “Harnessing Indigenous Content for Economic Growth: Facilitating Investment through Networking,” the Commission is rallying stakeholders for an exceptional presentation, building on the impressive momentum from the inaugural edition of the event last year. Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, conveyed that the NTICE is being overseen by the Commission’s Nigeria Office for Developing the Indigenous Telecom Sector (NODITS). This office is responsible for effectively executing the National Policy on the Promotion and Implementation of Indigenous Contents in the Telecommunications Sector (NPPIC).
The expo is open to a diverse range of participants spanning multiple sectors, including domestic telecom operators, manufacturers, regulators, government agencies, policymakers, innovators, industry leaders, startups, and other entities within the telecommunications ecosystem. Additionally, academia and global experts are also welcomed to showcase their products, services, inventive solutions, and emerging technologies.
Guided by the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) of 2003, the NCC is empowered to stimulate both local and foreign investments in the nation’s communications industry. This mandate extends to introducing innovative practices and services, as well as fostering the involvement of Nigerian citizens in the ownership, control, and management of communication enterprises. The act also emphasizes the growth of communication manufacturing and supply sectors.
Therefore, the planning of NTICE 2023 aligns with the existing provisions of the NCA 2003, driven by the aim to champion the four focal points of the NPPIC. These encompass Manufacturing, Service, People, and Research and Development, all working in concert to foster innovation and harmonize with the government’s broader efforts to diversify the economy.
The event continues to serve as a unique gathering of stakeholders, providing an invaluable platform for the exchange of diverse ideas that push forward the utilization of domestic content within the country’s telecommunications industry. To participate in the event, formal registration ahead of the event day is mandatory. For this purpose, the Commission has set up the registration link: www.ntice.ncc.gov.ng. As such, prospective attendees are advised to complete their registration by August 22, 2023.
In a recent interaction with NCC’s internal media, Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, reiterated that NTICE stands as Nigeria’s largest annual indigenous telecommunications, technology, startups, manufacturing, and innovation event. The event acts as a conduit for stakeholders to foster powerful connections and cultivate valuable new relationships that underscore the accomplishments and extensive potential of a technology-driven digital economy.
The 2023 Expo is poised to spotlight the government’s accomplishments in bolstering indigenous content within the sector, offering participants the ideal platform to exhibit their products, services, inventive solutions, and emerging technologies.
