NEMA receives 150 returnees from Algeria

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 150 Nigerian returnees from Algeria under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Federal Government.

The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 1:10 p.m. on February 17, 2026, aboard an Air Algérie flight with registration number 7T-VJL.

According to NEMA, the group comprised 140 adults—93 males and 47 females—eight children (five males and three females), and two male infants.

Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure proper profiling and facilitate reintegration.

In partnership with the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), NEMA provided immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, potable water, medical and ambulance services, luggage handling, and counselling to guarantee a safe, dignified and orderly reception process.
