NiDCOM celebrates Nigerians’ wins at 2026 Gramm

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated three globally acclaimed artistes of Nigerian heritage — Shaboozey, Tyler, the Creator, and Cynthia Erivo — on their victories at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the Grammy triumphs as a moment of national pride, underscoring the global resonance of Nigerian talent and cultural heritage.

She noted that the achievements of Shaboozey (born Collins Obinna Chibueze), Tyler, the Creator (born Tyler Gregory Okonma), and award-winning actress and singer Cynthia Erivo (born Cynthia Chinasaokwu Onyedinmanazu Amarachukwu Owezuke Echimino Erivo) reflect the creativity, resilience and excellence associated with Nigerian identity.

According to Dabiri-Erewa, their recognition at one of the world’s most prestigious music platforms transcends personal accomplishment, representing a broader celebration of Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent across the diaspora.

She also acknowledged the sustained global impact of Nigeria-based artistes such as Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Wizkid, whose contributions continue to elevate Nigerian music and culture on the international stage.

The NiDCOM boss emphasised that although the Grammy winners are based abroad, their Nigerian heritage, family roots and cultural identity remain unmistakable, adding that their successes further amplify Nigeria’s cultural footprint worldwide.

Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as well as media and cultural institutions, to adopt a more inclusive understanding of national pride by recognising Nigerian excellence wherever it manifests.

She said celebrating the accomplishments of Nigerians in the diaspora strengthens national cohesion, enhances the country’s global image and inspires younger generations to pursue international distinction.

The 2026 Grammy Awards recorded notable milestones for artistes of Nigerian descent, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing influence in global music and entertainment.
