Nigerian Army rescue three kidnap victims, kill two terrorists in Edo

The Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups, has rescued three kidnapped victims, neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered weapons during a clearance operation in Edo State.

The operation followed the reported abduction of victims at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026.

According to the Army, troops acted swiftly on credible intelligence and, working in collaboration with police personnel and local vigilantes, tracked the kidnappers to their hideout in Esan Local Government Area of the state.

On reaching the location, the joint security team engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the killing of two terrorists. The sustained offensive forced other members of the gang to flee, abandoning their captives.

The three kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed during the operation.

Security operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three mobile phones and two power banks from the scene. The recovered items are in security custody, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to eliminate criminal elements and safeguard lives and property across the country.

It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security operations by providing timely and credible intelligence on criminal hideouts and the activities of their collaborators.
