NSCDC deploys 57,000 personnel nationwide for Easter security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed over 57,000 personnel across the country to bolster security ahead of the Easter celebrations.

The nationwide operation, approved by Commandant General Ahmed Audi, will see officers—including specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives—strategically positioned across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Corps’ spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, said the deployment is designed to proactively address potential security threats while safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.

He noted that high-traffic locations such as churches, shopping centres, parks, and recreational facilities will experience heightened security presence, with both uniformed personnel and undercover operatives engaged in surveillance and rapid response duties.

According to the statement, Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of Colleges have been directed to coordinate security efforts within their jurisdictions to ensure effective implementation of the strategy.

Audi emphasised the importance of heightened vigilance and inter-agency collaboration, stressing that timely intelligence sharing and prompt response to public reports are crucial to the success of the operation.

“Our goal is to ensure a seamless and secure Easter season,” he said, adding that the Corps is working closely with other security agencies to maintain public order. He also urged parents and guardians to properly guide their children to prevent their involvement in activities that could disrupt peace.

The NSCDC further disclosed that its elite units—including the Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad—have been placed on maximum alert to respond swiftly to any emerging threats.

Members of the public were advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation as part of collective efforts to ensure a safe and incident-free Easter celebration.
