Police arrest 65 suspected kidnappers, recover ransom cash in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 65 suspected kidnappers and recovered ransom money and military uniforms during a coordinated midnight raid in Aviele.

Police authorities said the operation was carried out on March 2, 2026, at about 2:45 a.m. following credible intelligence that suspected kidnappers were operating from locations identified as Zango and Max Square Properties within the community.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikọedem, tactical teams from the State Headquarters, working in collaboration with operatives from the Auchi and Ekpoma Area Commands, launched the raid after technical analysis linked ransom negotiation activities to the area.

The operation led to the arrest of 65 suspects and the recovery of several items believed to be connected to kidnapping activities. Among the exhibits recovered was ₦1.85 million, suspected to be ransom proceeds, as well as uniforms and kits belonging to the Nigerian Army and other incriminating materials.

Police authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the operation.

All suspects and recovered items have been transferred to the Command headquarters in Benin City where investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement in kidnapping activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.

He reiterated the Command’s determination to dismantle kidnapping networks across Edo State and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to enhance public safety.
