The Nigeria Police Force has secured the conviction of 21 foreign nationals linked to a major cybercrime syndicate uncovered in Abuja in November 2024.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said acting on credible intelligence, police operatives raided a building in Jahi, Abuja, on 3 November 2024, arresting 130 suspects — 113 foreign nationals, mainly of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and 17 Nigerian collaborators. They were accused of large-scale internet fraud, hacking, and other cyber offences threatening Nigeria’s national security and economy.
Following extensive investigations, the suspects were arraigned on 2 December 2024. On 1 August 2025, 21 were convicted and sentenced, with prosecutions ongoing for the remaining defendants.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun stressed that the convictions demonstrate Nigeria’s resolve to combat cybercrime and warned both local and international networks that the country will not be a safe haven for criminals.
The Force pledged to continue leveraging technology, international partnerships, and thorough investigations to dismantle organised cybercrime groups, promising further updates as trials progress.
