Tinubu meets defence, security chiefs in Abuja, says terrorists suffering heavy losses

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a high-level security meeting with the nation’s defence, intelligence and military chiefs in Abuja to review the current security situation across the country.

Among those present at the meeting was the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, alongside service chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the defence minister said discussions with the President focused on ongoing military operations and strategies aimed at strengthening national security.

Musa dismissed what he described as “slanted media reports” suggesting that security forces were losing ground to criminal elements, insisting that terrorists and bandits were recording heavy casualties in ongoing operations.

According to him, security forces have intensified operations across several theatres, leading to the neutralisation of numerous insurgent leaders.

“Contrary to the slanted reports by the media, the terrorists and bandits are taking more casualties. Their commanders are being killed every day. We are sure of victory,” he said.

The meeting is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to evaluate security strategies and sustain momentum in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime across the country.

Security analysts say the regular consultations between the presidency and defence authorities underscore the government’s focus on consolidating military gains and restoring stability in affected regions.
