Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have intercepted a vehicle transporting a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa as part of ongoing operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks linked to banditry and other crimes in Kogi State.
Confirming the report, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi said the interception occurred on 1 December 2025 in the Agbede response area of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area. According to the Army, patrol teams stopped a red Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 325LA, which was conveying illegal substances from Ekiti State en route to Borno State.
The driver, identified as Hamisu Sule, attempted to flee upon sighting the troops at a checkpoint strategically deployed along transit routes. Soldiers pursued and apprehended him along the Apata–Lokoja road in Lokoja Local Government Area.
A total of 306 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 276 kilograms, were recovered from the vehicle. The suspect and the seized drugs have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi Command, for further investigation and prosecution.
The 12 Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kogi State, maintaining a strong operational presence, and preventing criminal elements from exploiting the state as a transit corridor.
