Troops rescue kidnap victim, foil terrorist attack in Kaduna, Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped victim in Kaduna State and foiled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State as security operations intensify across the North-West.

In a statement signed by Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said in Kaduna, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call on August 20, 2026, following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon community in Kachia Local Government Area.

He said the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and pursued the terrorists into the surrounding bushes, forcing them to abandon their captive and flee.

The victim was subsequently rescued and reunited with his family.

In a separate operation on August 21, troops of Sector 2, working with local security personnel, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The troops engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat in disarray.

During the ensuing pursuit, one terrorist was neutralised, while troops recovered two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items from the scene.

The Theatre Command said the operations reflected the continued determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect communities across its Joint Operations Area.

It assured residents that troops would maintain sustained operations against emerging threats and respond decisively to attacks on communities.

The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the region.
