WHO, TY Danjuma Foundation sign $2.26m health agreement

At a signing ceremony held today at the UN House in Abuja, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Nigeria and the TY Danjuma Foundation signed a landmark agreement worth US$ 2.26 million to support Nigeria’s health sector over the next decade.

The partnership aims to strengthen national health priorities through flexible funding, enabling WHO Nigeria to respond to evolving needs until December 2034. The initiative will focus on expanding access to integrated health services for women, children, and vulnerable populations in Taraba, Edo, and Enugu states.

“This agreement underscores our commitment to improving lives and fostering sustainable development in our communities,” said Lieutenant General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the TY Danjuma Foundation.

UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Mohamed Malic Fall described the partnership as a milestone for locally driven health financing. “This partnership highlights the strength of domestic resources and Nigeria’s potential to lead in securing its health sector,” he said.

WHO Representative Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo praised the collaboration’s impact, noting it would drive measurable progress in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.

Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, called the agreement a testament to the country’s commitment to health equity.

The event drew stakeholders from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, state governments, the diplomatic community, traditional and religious leaders, civil society, and development partners—all united in advancing health outcomes for Nigerians.
