12 killed in multiple-vehicle crash on Jos–Bauchi road

At least 12 persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal road traffic accident involving multiple vehicles near Babale Village along the Jos–Bauchi Road in Plateau State.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Jos Operations Office, said it coordinated rescue and emergency response efforts after the crash, which involved two articulated trailers, two Sharon buses and a Boxer vehicle.

According to NEMA, two other victims sustained critical injuries, while five persons with varying degrees of injuries were rescued and evacuated to nearby medical facilities for urgent medical attention.

Emergency responders promptly extricated trapped victims from the wreckage and commenced clearance of the affected vehicles to restore free flow of traffic along the busy highway.

Agencies involved in the rescue operation included NEMA, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and community volunteers.

NEMA urged motorists to exercise caution on highways, comply strictly with traffic regulations, avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy in order to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.

The agency said further updates would be provided as investigations and response efforts continue.
