145 Nigerian returnees welcomed from Algeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on September 22, 2025, received 145 Nigerian returnees from Algeria through the Assisted Voluntary Return initiative.

The returnees, comprising 132 adults, nine children, and four infants, arrived at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard an Air Algeria Airlines flight with registration number 7T-VKM at about 12:15 p.m.

Officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) immediately carried out biometric registration and documentation to ensure proper records and facilitate reintegration.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), working with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and other partners, provided essential humanitarian assistance, including food, potable water, medical care, ambulance services, and logistics support.

NEMA Lagos Operations Office said the exercise reflected the government’s commitment to the safe, dignified, and humane return of Nigerians stranded abroad.

The well-coordinated reception was jointly facilitated by NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI, and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
