The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 147 Nigerian returnees from the Niger Republic under the ongoing Voluntary Humanitarian Repatriation Programme in Kano.
The returnees arrived at about 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, aboard a Sky Mali flight at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), where NEMA and other relevant agencies coordinated their reception.
The group comprised 58 adult males, 38 adult females, 19 male children and 32 female children.
Following their arrival, the returnees were conveyed on Wednesday, September 2, to a designated facility for profiling, documentation, biometric capture and other mandatory post-arrival procedures.
The exercise was conducted through a coordinated effort involving the International Organization for Migration (IOM), National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Kano State Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA), Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The participating agencies jointly handled registration, screening and documentation, while also providing immediate humanitarian support to address the returnees’ basic needs.
NEMA said the reception, profiling and documentation exercise was completed successfully without any major incident, with effective inter-agency coordination ensuring the orderly processing and welfare of the returnees.
The latest repatriation underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities and humanitarian partners to facilitate the safe and dignified return and reintegration of Nigerians stranded or residing in vulnerable circumstances outside the country.
