Twenty Nigerian students have been awarded scholarships to study at the esteemed European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin, Germany. The scholarships were secured following the acceptance of a special offer by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, on August 28, 2024.
The announcement was made during a special dinner in Berlin, hosted by German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst, co-founder of Sapinda Group and owner of fashion brand La Perla. The event, held at the exclusive China Club, was attended by prominent leaders from both the public and private sectors, including ESMT Berlin President, Jörg Rocholl.
In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Tuggar expressed gratitude to Windhorst for his generous gesture, noting that the scholarships would provide valuable opportunities for shared learning and global experiences for the Nigerian students. He praised ESMT’s reputation as one of Germany and Europe’s top business schools, emphasizing the significance of this opportunity for the recipients.
Tuggar also took the opportunity to invite the assembled dignitaries to consider investing in Nigeria, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to transform the country into an economic hub for foreign investors. He cited recent economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate, as examples of the government’s commitment to boosting the Nigerian economy.
The Minister assured that the scholarship would be awarded to qualified Nigerian students, contributing to their development and equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for Nigeria’s growth.
Additionally, Tuggar called on the Global North to prioritize infrastructure investment in Africa, urging them to move beyond geopolitical considerations and focus on sustainable development.
