Amnesty International demands justice for Kaduna attack victims

Amnesty International has condemned the latest wave of violence in Southern Kaduna, where seven people were killed in an armed attack on Unguwan Rimi village, Kamaru ward, Kauru Local Government Area, on August 24, 2025. The victims were buried today.

The rights group said the attack, which left homes destroyed, residents injured, and many displaced, reflects a disturbing pattern of insecurity in the region. It criticized the failure of security forces to prevent or swiftly respond to the assault despite repeated warnings from communities.

“Some victims of past attacks in Southern Kaduna told Amnesty International that security forces were absent during most of the assaults, arriving only hours after attackers had left,” the organization noted.

Amnesty International stressed that the absence of accountability has left rural communities feeling abandoned and vulnerable. It urged Nigerian authorities to conduct an independent investigation into the killings and ensure that perpetrators face justice.

“The authorities must act decisively to end the cycle of violence. Justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators are critical to restoring security and public confidence,” the group said.
